I have had this kite since late 2004 and I have been flying it on a regular basis since then when the condition where appropriate for it. When unpacking for the first time, you will just notice how professional the people at Ozone are. The kite was really well packed and connected to the lines and bar. As a result I could have gone flying straight away. The kite was enclosed in a really nice rucksack with embroidered Ozone logo. There is as well a really complete user manual in a booklet format as well as a poster one with all the basic information about the kite and safety related issues. On top of that, ozone also gives you a repair kit that matches the colour of your kite. I had an A4 sized sheet of blue Spi and another white one should I need to repair my kite. The repair kit also included a few spare bridles should one snap whilst in flight! The quality of the kite is really great and you can understand why Ozone is considered as one of the best paraglider manufacturer in the world and now considered as a top brand for kiting as well. The quality is just great, and this made me understand why Ozone kits are generally more expensive than other brands.
My Frenzy was my first open cell foil depower kite that I never had before. So I was a bit nervous to the idea of launching it the first time. But having been powerkiting for a bit more than 5 years at the time and having flown C kites with depower before, I realised that it would not be difficult. I would suggest you to fly a bit underpowered whenever you fly a kite for the first time. Either as an experienced flyer or as a novice. The first flight was really great and smooth. The kite took off really easily in a regular 12 knots and went nicely to the zenith pulling me a meter downwind if not less. The first session has just been great. Also you might be afraid of the power developed by the kite for the first two sessions or so, flying in at the top of the wind window is really easy in nice winds. After a few session you will start to go deeper and deeper in the window and even start looping the kite to go a bit faster when cruising. Also the kite turns slowly compared to and inflatable kite or a smaller size quad lines kite, you will learn to fly it this way and will forget about that point after a while. The depower of the frenzy is quiet nice and helps you a lot especially in gust or when going upwind as playing with the power of the kite will makes you going upwind more easily. As an experienced kiter, It did not required me a lot of time to master the beast and after a few sessions I was already able to fly it overpowered and having a lot of fun going really fast. I would recommend this kite who is already proficient in flying power kites and who knows the basic of traction kiting to any expert rider. Frenzy is a really friendly kite which pushed can be the weapon of choice for ripping your local spot either on land or snow. And what is happening is the kite crash? Well, you just re-launch it and it is a piece of cake. The Ozone bar has got a line with a handle which links the two brakes lines so if you pull the handle, the kite will reverse automatically. There is nothing more easy to be honest. I don’t even think that I ever had any problem re launching it except with no wind of course. As regard the safety, Ozone already has got a lot of experience from its paragliding background and basically, they have took it into consideration when developing this kite. You are basically linked to the kite thanks to the wrist leash so should the kite go when you are unhooked, the leash will just pull the break lines and the kite will fall off the sky. Should you be riding unhooked because this is what the Frenzy is done for, you can release the chicken look from the de power line by just pulling the red safety handle. The kite will go and if you have the leash, it will just fall off the sky in a matter of seconds. But to be honest it will pull you a bit as chances are that you will release the kite as you can not master it anymore. Don't worry if you still want to release the leash, you also have another release for it in case of emergency.
Reloading the safety release is really easy as everything is done with Velcro. However, I would just recommend you to learn how to use them and reload them before actually needing to use them.
Overall, I would just recommend this kite to any accomplished flyer or any beginner who knows how to fly a kite properly and who start to be able to go up and down wind. You will obviously need an hour or two to get adapt to it, but you will then be able to fly it as if you had always flown it. This kite is really great for any landboarder wishing to start jumping around as well as for anybody who just want to cruise up and down the beach.
